Paola grew up among books in the Bottega Fagnola and began working on bookbinding at the age of 16, while studying at high school at the same time. She perfected her knowledge on craft bookbinding, conservation techniques, leather decoration, fine/design binding, gilding, paper decoration and book arts, at the Bel Libro Centre of Ascona (CH).
Her interests go from papermaking to calligraphy and lettering, paperfolding and papercrafts. Since 2007, she has been participating in international bookbinding and book arts competitions, in 2014 she won first prize in the Bookbinding category at the international bookbinding and calligraphy competition Pieces for Pieces, and in 2015, she was on the jury of the Biennales Mondiale de la Reliure d'Art, a contest that saw her among the winners at only 21 years of age with one of her first bookbindings.
Conservator with a degree in Conservation and restoration of cultural heritage from the School of Advanced Training for conservators ICRCPAL in Rome, ranges from conservation to fine and design bookbinding, between tradition and innovation, broadening her horizons towards everything that is book and paper.
She’s a teacher in Conservation schools (including the one in which she graduated) and in workshops for Design and Visual Communication students. She taught in Turin, Rome, Milan, Alessandria, Spoleto.
