A Belgian gem.

A pleasant introduction to a non-adhesive binding, which is shrewdly constructed: the sewing connects the book block with the boards and the spine.
The result is a simple looking, perfectly working book, opening flat and free. A jewel.

Hedi Kyle (USA) rediscovered this binding, which mysterious origin was attributed to the Belgians, and generously taught it.

Meanwhile, lately the secret is unraveled: Anne Goy (B) presented her binding for the first time in 1986. She describes it as 'une reliure à couture intercroisée', a binding with an interlaced sewing, which she developed while looking for a solution to keep the Japanese binding sewing pattern but on a structure enabling the full opening of the pages.

She has recently decided to name it Crisscross Binding, because of the movement the thread follows making the sewing.
Anne Goy gave permission to give this workshop on her technique.
This class is based on a model and a description Hedi Kyle made, specially for this workshop, for your teacher Cor Aerssens.
It is a good opportunity to widen your field of vision on making books.

TIMETABLE
9h30 am - 5h30 pm (lunch break)
Tuition will be in English, but the teachers can assist students in Dutch, Italian, French and German if required.

REGISTRATION AND PAYMENT
To join it is indispensable to formalize the enrolment by the expected deadline.The registration fee is 100 EUR, including coffee break, costs of materials and the use of tools provided by the organizers.
Travel, accommodation and meals expenses are not included.

Membership to the Association is requested (25 EUR).

Class size is limited: we cannot guarantee places requested at the last moment. Payment order will determine the enrolment order.
Closing date for enrolment and payment of the fee: 22nd January, 2011.

CANCELLATION - PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
Enrolment must be cancelled in writing. If the cancellation letter is posted four weeks or more before the workshop begins, the participation fee will be refunded minus a 15% cancellation charge.
If the cancellation letter is posted less than four weeks but more than two weeks before the workshop begins, then the participation fee will be refunded minus a 50% cancellation charge.
If the cancellation letter is posted less than two weeks before the workshop begins, then the participation fee will not be refunded.
No refund will be given if students enrol but, without further notification, do not participate at the workshop.
