This course is halfway between photography, design and bookbinding.
Nowadays photography is no longer the exceptional event that permitted people to remember a face or a special moment of their lives. Images have become disposable and they are very seldom printed or improved, unless by professional photographers.
Now more than ever, since the photos we are used to are mostly digital, and subjected to the same canons, filters, ways of reading, it is very important to think about the meaning of printed images and their fruition, about the mounting, the sequence, the possibility of emphasizing some parts and making them dialogue with each other.
We will deal with different subjects, paying attention to the cropping of the images and the order in which to keep them. We don't want to store our photos in traditional albums, but rather create book structures that adapt to the images they contain.
To practice using the proposed structures, materials for which will be provided in class, participants will be given instructions on the photographic printed materials to bring, which will be selected and assembled during the week.

In this five-day course all sorts of images will be considered. You can experiment with various ideas of layout and make different kinds of FOTObooks to keep your photos.
There will be matching, cutting, collage and superimposition exercises and we will work both with black and white and colour; we will also talk about perception theory, composition and chromatology.
We will also focus our attention to the problems which arise when photographing bindings, as images of books are often very poor and lacking in understanding.

Participants don't need a special level of skills in bookbinding, but it is important that they have some skills in the field of photography, so that they can bring images appropriate to the research work that will be carried out during the course.
