Since 1996 the CFP Bauer in Milan organizes an annual course of typographical design.

The course consists on a first approach to the history and culture of typography, the history of writing and type (from epigraphy to calligraphy, from Gutenberg to digital fonts), lettering and printing techniques.

This course main project is the making of a booklet dealing with typography or the alphabet.

Participants to the course contribute to the content and the making of the book by means of traditional typography: the use of traditional printing type-faces.

Each booklet is carefully printed on good quality paper and is bound by hand.
The program includes a visit to some printing Museum and a Historical Library.

The teachers are James Clough (the history of typography), Lucio Passerini (lettering and typography), Claude Marzotto (unconventional printing techniques), Claudio Madella (printing techniques), Luca Barcellona (calligraphy and lettering), Pietro Pradella (composition), Bruno Armada (printing) and Cristina Balbiano d'Aramengo (bookbinding).
