RECTANGULAR BOXES WITH SIMPLE HINGES - Part 1
This seminar is the continuation in the series of boxes-making, the first of two focused on hinges and their functioning.
In the previous two workshops the basic forms, rectangular boxes with a loose lid, were treated.
A step further is to connect the lid to the base, in this case with a cloth hinge.
In this five-day workshop we will begin with an explanation about the types of hinges that will be used, and their functions.
The technical conditions necessary for a box to function properly will also be treated, translating these conditions into formulas.
We will make two boxes, both with a simple lid, flat and without sides, which rests on the base.
The first model will be a rectangular box with four closed sides, suitable to contain small objects; the closure of the lid is guaranteed by the presence of magnets incorporated in the structure.
The second box will have the basic characteristics of a simple book box, closed on three sides and with a free spine: the lid, once again without sides, sits on the base and is closed by a ribbon.
Both models will be externally covered with a single piece of bookcloth, according to the well known and refined technique developed by Cor Aerssens.
This is a week of intense work, in a stimulating environment, which will greatly increase your skills in box-making.
This seminar is of advanced level and is a continuation of the previous "Boxes I" and "Boxes II". Those who, whether professional or amateur, have already acquired the basic knowledge for the construction of boxes with free lids can participate.
