In this workshop Benjamin Elbel will introduce Pianel®, his latest design: a bookbinding structure that uses the piano hinge as a main structural and visual feature.
 
Pianel® has a very reduced outlook with all the unsightly elements of the piano hinge tucked away in a neat, nifty construction, leaving only two clean vertical lines on the outside separating the spine and boards. Shiny dots of polished brass rods complete the head and tail.
 
The process behind the result is simple but requires a lot of precision and planning. A highly rewarding project packed with tips and tricks of the trade, that will appeal to both amateur and professional bookbinders.

This workshop is designed to show participants that it is possible to make this binding without heavy equipment (neither the board chopper nor the guillotine will be used), apart from the press, and even this could be optional.
 
LOCATION
The course will take place at Professione Libro,
Via Angelo Del Bon, 1 - 20158 MILAN - I
 
TIME
Friday 10 am - 4,30 pm, Saturday and Sunday 9.30 am - 4,30 pm; each day we will have lunch and coffee breaks.
During lunch break it will be possible to eat all together in a bar close to the workshop.
Tuition will be in English, but it’s possible to get a translation in French, German and Italian if required.

REGISTRATION AND PAYMENT
Registration must be made before the closing date.
The participation fee is 375 euro, including coffee breaks, costs of materials and the use of tools, provided by the organizers.
Early bird offer (enrollment by 21 March) 355 euro.
 
Membership to the Association for 2020 is required (30 euro).
 
There is limited availability so you are invited to book early.
Payment dates will determine booking priorities.
 
Closing date for enrolment and payment of the fee 17 April, 2020. However, the final registration order being determined by the payment order, it is necessary to pay at the time of registration, so that the place is guaranteed.
 
CANCELLATION - PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
Enrolment must be cancelled in writing.
If the cancellation letter is posted four weeks or more before the workshop begins, the participation fee will be refunded minus a 15% cancellation charge.
If the cancellation letter is posted less than four weeks but before the closing date of enrollments, then the participation fee will be refunded minus a 50% cancellation charge.
No refund will be given in case of cancellation after the closing date. Yet, if a person on the waiting list could take over, the fee will be refunded in full (to the exclusion of any membership fee paid contextually, covering the administration costs). 
No refund will be given if, once registered and without further communication, the student doesn't partecipate.
In case the minimum number of participants should not be reached, the course will be cancelled and the whole fee refunded. The confirmation of the feasibility of the workshop will be announced to the participants after the closing of entries, or when the minimum number of enrolments will be reached.
