A day to explore East Asia bookbinding techniques.
We will experiment with various models, studying basic stitching techniques and some variations; we will also explore the basic models of the traditional concertina.
The bindings will be made with oriental papers for the pages and traditional Chiyogami papers for the covers, and with colored silk, cotton, and linen threads, creating a wide range of customized designs.
Since these are highly versatile techniques, which can also be used to sew together simple loose sheets, they will also prove useful for paper materials that are not usually suitable for sewing booklets using traditional Western techniques. Models of some unorthodox variations will be shown, to provide inspiration and ideas for future use of this technique in your own projects.
For beginners and all levels.
