This course is specially conceived to answer to the needs of librarians and archivists, that daily have to face common problems in storage, conservation and care of publishing materials (particularly paperbacks, sewn or just glued) and their annexes (letters, loose sheets, envelopes...).

In fact, modern papery material presents different problems than old books, mostly being of very bad quality, and very fragile or anyway easily perishable when handled.

We will study and discuss different kind of problems and make prototypes for the different typologies of solutions.

The aim of this class is to make the participants able to come off making autonomously simple bindings without adhesives, and protective cases and folders to store the libraries materials, with basic equipments, low costs and short time.

During these hands-on lessons all the working steps will be shown, and the participants will repeat them making their own models.
