Through a collaboration of A14/Daniela Lorenzi and Cristina Balbiano d'Aramengo, the theme of this new series of workshops proposes bookbinding and original print making techniques as instruments for graphic design project planning and production.
Intentionality, technique, form, content, and language are all elements which equally contribute to the successful design, planning, and creation of a book or a folder.
The workshops provide an opportunity to closely look at the world of small publishing houses and limited edition artists books, and draw inspiration from artists and graphic designers projects, as well as from significant experiences in bookbinding.

Perceptually what happens as we imagine to look beyond, to exceed the limit of sight, to blur the boundaries or suggest something that is underneath what we can see...

By looking through, layering, creating multiple levels of vision, playing with transparencies, the aim of this workshop is to explore anew the space within the book and its perception.

Beginning with the choice and type of paper, following the cadence and the progressive development of the pages, through the application of several methods of printing using the etching press, and finally the assemblage using different techniques of bookbinding, together we will explore the possible meanings of transparency, throughout the designing and making of our booklets.

There are no pre-requisites for attending this workshop.
LOCATION
The course will take place at A14, Via Arcivescovo Romilli, 15 , 20139 MILAN - IT
Unfortunately the premises are not accessible to people with motor disabilities or walking difficulties, as they are located in the basement without a lift.
 
TIMETABLE
Saturday and Sunday 9,30am - 6,30pm (1h lunch break, coffee break).
 
It will be possible to eat all together in a bar close to the workshop.
Tuition will be in Italian, but it will be possible to have assistance also in English and French.
 
TOOLS AND MATERIALS
All materials and tools will be available in the laboratory.
 
REGISTRATION AND PAYMENT
Registration must be made before the closing date.
The participation fee is 295 EUR. 
 
The course is limited in number: last-minute registrations cannot guarantee availability. Upon reaching the maximum number admitted, it is possible to ask to be placed on the waiting list.
The final registration order is determined by the order of payment.

Closing date for enrolment and payment of the fee: October 15, 2026.
 
CANCELLATION - PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
Enrolment must be cancelled in writing.
If the cancellation letter is posted two weeks or more before the workshop begins, the participation fee will be refunded minus a 15% cancellation charge.
If the cancellation letter is posted less than two weeks but before the closing date of enrollments, then the participation fee will be refunded minus a 50% cancellation charge.
No refund will be given in case of cancellation after the closing date. Yet, if a person on the waiting list could take over, the fee will be refunded in full.
No refund will be given if, once registered and without further communication, the student doesn't partecipate.
In case the minimum number of participants should not be reached, the course will be cancelled and the whole fee refunded.
The confirmation of the feasibility of the workshop will be announced to the participants after the closing of entries, or when the minimum number of enrolments will be reached.
