Eva Szily

Born in Hungary, Eva Szily lives in Paris, France since 1970.
For about 25 years, she has been working as a graphic designer. The reason she became interested in bookbinding was her close friendship to Sün Evrard. Conservation bindings in paper became central to her work very soon, with a special interest for making an individual design for each book.

Eva has been working for several years for the Bibliothèque Nordique, a department of the Bibliothèque Sainte-Geneviève, and also for the prestigious library ‘Bibliothèque Littéraire Jacques Doucet’. In these institutions, she had the opportunity to give a new life to many of soft cover publications in bad condition, adapting known structures to the particular needs of each or inventing new solutions. Some of these books were to be left in their original condition needing only a protective box, and her work is now often associated with the ‘magnetic box’.

Some of the exhibitions she took part:
Exhibition of Contemporary Bindings, Paris, 2004
Bookbinding Exhibition Australia, 2005
Tomorrow’s Past, London, 2005, 2007, 2008
3R Riom, Reliure, Rencontre, 2006, 2014
Salon du Livre Ancien, Librairie Jammes, Paris, 2008-2015
