The workshop is intended for those who have already attended a basic course or have similar specific knowledge and wish to deepen their experience in the field.
Basic matters will not be considered, as that kind of knowledge is taken for granted. We will concentrate on historical sewings and their development and use in contemporary works.
The practical part will include preparing the gatherings, folding, cutting and pressing, trimming, studying a pattern for sewing, spine division, making the sewing holes both in the sections and in the cover, the link between sections and cover. Adhesives will not be used. We will study different examples of structural sewing forms that hold the book block together while decorating the spine that remains uncovered: the thread, the knots and the structural links remain exposed. We will deal with the Coptic binding, the fluid sewing, the link stitch and the kettle stitch, with limp and hard covers and sections being prepared by the students.
