An old book, which no longer interests, can be undone, cut, paint, sew, erased, pasted.
You can use different techniques, stencils, stamps, printing, and different materials, fabric, thread...
In this way it relives under a new, more personal form and from book becomes sculpture, installation. You can read it in a different way, the text will no longer matter, but the new intervention will determine its reading.
In fact, working on an old book is like working on oneself, recycling and recycling themselves, new ways of being and proposing: the end but at the same time a new beginning.
The workshop aims to accompany the participants to the realization of a work of their own, starting from an idea and developing it in the most appropriate and personal way.
LOCATION
The course will take place at Professione Libro, Via A. Del Bon, 1 - 20158 MILAN - I
TIME
Saturday and Sunday 9.30 am - 6 pm (1h lunch break, coffee break).
It will be possible to eat all together in a bar close to the workshop.
Tuition will be in Italian, but the teacher can assist students in English and French if required.
TOOLS AND MATERIALS
All materials and tools will be available in the laboratory; participants are invited to bring a couple of books to work on, so you can choose the most suitable.
You can choose both a book that has a special meaning for you, and a book to throw away, of which you can use only the pages as a starting material. No books with very thin pages are recommended; and maybe one of them could have a hard cover.
REGISTRATION AND PAYMENT
Registration must be made before the closing date.
The participation fee is 225 euro, including coffee breaks, costs of materials and the use of tools, provided by the organizers.
Joining the association is necessary: membership 25 euro.
There is limited availability so you are invited to book early.
Closing date for enrolment and payment of the fee: 22 September, 2018.
However, the final registration order being determined by the payment order, it is necessary to pay at the time of registration, so that the place is guaranteed.
CANCELLATION - PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
Enrolment must be cancelled in writing.
If the cancellation letter is posted two weeks or more before the workshop begins, the participation fee will be refunded minus a 15% cancellation charge.
If the cancellation letter is posted less than two weeks but before the closing date of enrollments, then the participation fee will be refunded minus a 50% cancellation charge.
No refund will be given in case of cancellation after the closing date. Yet, if a person on the waiting list could take over, the fee will be refunded in full (to the exclusion of any membership fee paid contextually, covering the administration costs).
No refund will be given if, once registered and without further communication, the student doesn't partecipate.
In case the minimum number of participants should not be reached, the course will be cancelled and the whole fee refunded.
The confirmation of the feasibility of the workshop will be announced to the participants after the closing of entries, or when the minimum number of enrolments will be reached.
